Several months ago I wrote to the Taxi and Limosine Commission (TLC) in response to a notice for public response to a proposal to allow for more medallions, meaning more taxicabs in New York City. As a New Yorker I felt that more taxis are important, but that more pollution should be avoided. I wrote to them and explained my feelings that only Hybrid Taxis should be allowed for the new medallions.

Today I learned via an Internet news story that Mayor Bloomberg has sent an edict that all taxis shall be Hybrids. Thank you Mayor Bloomberg.

I feel that I my voice was heard. Did I change a piece of the world? I cannot know. Was my idea based in Rocket Science, not at all. It was just a logical win win solution to a request for comments.

This is not the first time that my comments to politicians have been heard, but it certainly makes me feel warmed by the fact that my ideas, always cutting edge can sometimes gain sway when a man in power promotes the idea as his own. I have no problems with the credit, as long as the idea is put into motion so that it becomes a solution.

So congratulations to all New Yorkers. We will have more taxis to better serve our commutation needs, but less pollution. I love New York.
