The US Government is now trying to maintain its control over the prisoners at Guantanamo even further. Now the government wants to limit contact between lawyers and prisoners. Forget that the prisoners have been there for years without charges, trials, or any kind of probable cause hearings. Forget that no one but our king and his circle of influence has any knowledge about what any of these prisoners did that makes them enemies of the state. Forget that when Iran hijacked English Sailors last month the outcry was heard from Britain and our King that a state just cannot seize people and hide them away. The issue is that our King no longer has to answer to anyone. He can do what he wants and just make the statement that it was the right thing to do.

Let us hope that on January 20, 2009, when the next President is to ascend to office that our King will yield his throne. It is not beyond him to suggest that the timing isn’t right to allow for a change in government. In the meantime, our King will continue to bankrupt our populace, damage our country’s reputation around the world and lessen our expectations respecting individual human rights.
